I often refer to sport when explaining the difference between being ready for an expatriation or being prepared !

💡 Being ready will assure a successful adjustment through time and therefore a sustainable performance 👉 whereas being well prepared is not enough to perform!

👉 The difference is experience which will provide mandatory learning cycles - and self confidence!

💡 Same in sport:

If you train hard for a certain amount of time, you could be well-prepared for a competition but you just won't be ready for it, precisely because of your lack of experience.

You will be prepared in the sense that you are fit and strong and you know all the things you need to know about your sport. But, having not had enough competition experience, you will be nervous, almost to the point that it might debilitate you. You will not be used to the pressures of competition and this too will negatively impact your ability to practice your sport to the best of your capabilities!

👉 You just have to have the courage to jump and the faith in yourself to know that you can figure it out as you go.

💡 Reasons why expensive cross-cultural training can have limited long term effects, this is being prepared but .....you need much more!
