👉 Needless to say how impactful and transformational will an expatriation be for you.
There is a very interesting article by Prof. Osland - on this effect- in which she uses Joseph Campbell's metaphor of the hero's journey to analyse expatriate stories and outline their transformational stages towards acceptance, change and success in adjusting!
👉 More important is to mention (because much less known and researched) - the transformational effects this expatriation will have on the following members and the inner close circle at different times during the time spent abroad.
👉 Indeed, the impact will have various effects much more unpredictable and less visible than it is the case for the person who is at the origin of the move.
💡Once the decision to leave is taken there is a sense of strong solidarity and support from the following members whereas they have been the least prepared and involved - in a way- for that move.
💡The employee deciding to move is indeed the one receiving at first hand, a lot of attention, rewards, support and probably a promotion from the company.
✅ But his/her well being and as a matter of fact - performance - is linked to the one of its following members and circle, so that's where the key of a sustainable expat is!
👉 It is therefore critical to include - from the beginning of the decision process - not only the employee but also the following members to reduce any shocks ...the one that come later ...due to the ripple effect!!!
👉 This can be eased with a strong, well adjusted preparation and support before and all the way !!
