🌎 What if you don’t need a new life — just a new definition of success?

A few months ago, I wrote about the midlife crisis when you are an expat.

The response made me realise how many of us reach a point where we ask:

I have built a life. So why do I feel I need something different?

💡 Maybe because we have changed.

What mattered at 30 may not matter at 50.

Achievement can give way to meaning.

Status to autonomy.

Success to fulfilment.

And changing your definition of success doesn't mean your previous choices were wrong.

👉 They were right for who you were then.

Living abroad teaches us to adapt, question assumptions and reinvent ourselves.

Perhaps the next chapter isn't about starting over.

So, before making a drastic change, try three things:

👉 Pause: give yourself time to understand what is really bothering you.

👉Take stock: look at what your international experience has given you — skills, relationships, resilience, perspectives.

👉 Redefine: ask yourself what success means to you now, not what it used to mean.

You may discover that you don't need to start over.

You may simply need to connect the dots differently.

What has changed in your definition of success over the years?
